New Nintendo DS Nintendo's handheld trend: Release two handheld devices. make 1 play the older games, make 1 play the newer games and then after a few months make better, more expensive versions. Seems like Nintendo has done it again. The Nintendo DS has only been available for about 14 months since it was first released in Japan and already Nintendo are make the DS Lite, a smaller DS with a few incredible brightness options, WOW! the new sizes will be 133.0 x 73.9 x 21.5mm (or 13.3cm x 7.39cm x 2.15 cm) and will weight 218g. The DS Lite will retail for 16,800 Yen ($143). The new DS will be available worldwide however Japan will be the first to get it on March 2nd. For those who are interested, the original DS dimensions are 148.7 x 84.7 x 28.9mm (14.87cm x 8.47cm x 2.89cm) and weights 275g so overall not a big difference and costs 15,000 Yen ($130) Source: GamesAreFun In case anyone is wondering about this, the handheld they've updated and sold to play the older the games is the GBA Advance. While the SP (the second version of the GBA) is still selling strong and is very popular because it plays the old GB and GB Colour games (which the DS cannot), Nintendo still decided to release a new handheld based on it, the Micro (the third version of the GBA). Amazingly it doesn't play these old games so other than adding a redesign and a backlight options, the Micro was released for no valid reason.
