New Revenant Wings details - November
New information courtesy of Motomu Toriyama and Eisuke Yokoyama has hit the new thanks to Dengeki DS Style.
Despite the fact that the Revenant Wings development team doesn't want the game called Final Fantasy 12-2, they do seem to be using a lot of things which seem to make it more like Final Fantasy 10-2 all the time.
Degenki DS Style recently interviewed Final Fantasy 12: Revenant Wings director and writer Motomu Toriyama (who also directed Final Fantasy 10-2) and Eisuke Yokoyama, the game's co-producer. The interview revealed the game doesn't have a specific time (such as 10 days, 10 weeks after etc.) and that Vaan is a Sky Pirate who is on a mission to find a treasure and has arrived on the floating continent of Puruvama, with the game taking place on the floating continent and other locations around Ivalice.
Yokoyama said that althougth all of Ivalice was impossible to add (due the limited space of the cartridges), the main locations would still be available (such as Rabanastre) and that gamers will be able to see what characters have gone onto with their lives since Final Fantasy 12.
Toriyama stated that the game is being designed to be playable in short bursts, so you will quickly move through the story and that the game will be made up of episodes which build up to a larger story which has been promised to maintain the Final Fantasy style of drama.
Yokoyama also went on to explain some new details on the battle system. Although the system will be mostly new, elements such as Gambits will be dumbed down to accomodate beginners and that the battle system will be fully playable with the stylus.
When asked about playable characters, Yokoyama went onto say that Fran and Balthier (and of course Vaan and Penelo) will definitely be there as they were seen the Revenant Wings trailer but he expects there to be more playable characters in Revenant Wings. Toriyama even went onto say that Summons will play a bigger part and will be the key to battles. On top of that, he also stated the game will have the most summons of any Final Fantasy game to date (which is impressive, as I think Final Fantasy 6 had something like 27, plus the GBA version is adding at least two more) and that they will be used differently than previous games.
The only grey area about the game's development is WiFi. If lag can be eliminated then there is the possibility of it being used. Toriyama said the battle system is good for competive play, but the lag is an issue. He also said he wants to fully use the DS which would also include it's dual screens for events, battles and game menus.
