Final Fantasy XIII looks to 2008
In the most recent issue of Famitsu, Tetsuya Nomura has dropped an interesting hint as to FF13's release...
It seems that the highly anticipated Final Fantasy 13, directed by Motomu Toriyama of Final Fantasy 10, 10-2 and Revenant Wings fame, will not be seeing the light of day in Japan until 2008. Nomura (character designer of FF13, director of FF Versus 13) revealed that the game is taking a little longer than expected because of problems with the still-in-development White Engine.
Although we won't be seeing anything of Fabula Nova Crystallis this year, we may see a brand-new entrance into the Compilation of Final Fantasy 7. Speaking of games that he is involved with, Nomura revealed that he was releasing five games this year; Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7, Kingdom Hearts 2 - Final Mix+, It's a Wonderful World and Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children Complete were mentioned. Questioned about the fifth game, Nomura replied "We're going to be announcing it soon. It has to be released this year, or else it will lose its meaning..."
What year is it? 2007 - 7 as in Final Fantasy 7, and 2007 as in the 10th anniversary of the original Final Fantasy 7. Don't expect a full-blown remake, but be on the look-out for a new side-quest in the Compilation of Final Fantasy 7!
