Nomura and Kitase talk Final Fantasy on PS3
Dengeki Magazine have sat down with Tetsuya Nomura and Yoshinori Kitase to discuss upcoming Final Fantasy projects on the PS3!
The main topic was Final Fantasy 13, but before the duo talked expecitly of Fabula Nova Crystallis, they gave some hints on what was happening on the hardware side of things, as well as the fate of everyone's favourite character...
When asked whether Cloud's story was now over, Nomura pitched in to answer that nothing was currently planned because of how deeply he was involved with Versus 13, but that master-writer Kazushige Nojima (FF7, 8, 10, 13, Compilation of FF7, KH) didn't want to leave Cloud just yet, so something would "surely" be done about that!
Nomura then led the conversation in the direction of Versus 13. Speaking of the game, he hinted that it might feature airships and a full world-map: "The other day I saw a test of an airship flying over the world map. I felt that I was seeing a Final Fantasy-like screen for the first time in a long time. However, the fact that things have become realistic made us concerned about what to do about the scale. It's the same scale as past FF games, but even then, it's so wide that you can't make out the first town."
The title's director then continued by pointing out that there were some big players in the game's team, but they wouldn't be announced just yet - we already know of Shimomura's involvement in music, and Kitase's production, so all that's really left is the writer - Watanabe or Nojima? Who knows. Finally, Nomura pointed out that the Versus team was getting some help from the FF13 team itself, which is considerably further ahead than Versus, and will finish their project much earlier.
In terms of new material, the earliest time we can foresee anything surfacing will be around Christmas or a little after, as Shonen Jump will hold its annual Jump Festa, where new Square videos and images are generally released to the public. Check back here soon for updates regarding that!
