Tech demo footage of Fortress: Final Fantasy XII leaked
When Western developer GRIN went out of business several months ago, word passed around that they had one final ace up their sleeve.
Supposedly, this was a Final Fantasy game, the first ever non-Japanese developed title of its kind. The developers had a history of poor games, so its quite incomprehensible as to why Square would recruit these people in the first place to tackle their flagship series, but the point is they did. The footage below, leaked recently, is a good indicator of where the game was at the time of its cancellation.
The game was codenamed "FORTRESS", although it was being developed as a sequel or spin-off to Final Fantasy 12, as is most evident in the game's scenery. No word who was working on composition, although the placeholder music here could just as easily have been ripped from something else; some of the cues sound similar to Michael Giacchino's work on "Lost".
Word has it that Square is actually continuing to work on this title internally. We'll update you if we here anything more.
