Dirge of Cerberus Vincent's History
If you consider that Vincent was a secret/optional character in the original Final Fantasy VII, you would never guess how elaborate his past is.
With a few cut scenes, and some story-telling, Vincent’s history slowly unveiled in front of the players, and added a whole new dimension to the whole plotline. It is quite possible that this will somehow be involved with DoC.
Vincent, a former Turk, was asked to accompany a scientist named Lucrecia to the Shinra Mansion in Nibelheim. There, she would spend time with Professor Gast and his experiments. However, the days Vincent spent with Lucrecia soon turned into love. When Vincent finally gathered the courage to propose to Lucrecia, she rejected him… only later to see his beloved in Hojo’s arms. Not revealing what he saw, Vincent accepts this, and leaves Lucrecia with Hojo… “As long as she is happy...”
Unfortunately, Hojo and Lucrecia’s relationship was not as stable as it seemed to be. Hojo had impregnated Lucrecia, and was experimenting with the fetus. After discovering this, Vincent questioned Hojo and his motives. As a result, the twisted scientist injected JENOVA cells into Vincent, and trapped him in a coffin.
Interestingly, Lucrecia and Hojo’s child is the villain of the game, Sephiroth.
A dark and mysterious figure, Vincent followed Cloud and the gang with his gun and golden metal claw-like arm. Vincent cloaks himself with a black robe and red cape, while hiding the lower half of his face with a mask. If combined with the fact that Vincent was trapped in a coffin, Vincent’s appearance lead many people to infer that he was a deadly beast. The fact that his Limit Breaks transformed him into horrific monsters added to the argument. However, it has been clarified that this is only because of the JENOVA cells that were injected into his body by Hojo. |
