Final Fantasy XII License Board

Your party will encounter hundreds of abilities, weapons, armour, and Magicks during the course of their adventures, but virtually all of these (with a few notable exceptions that will be detailed elsewhere) require you to obtain the appropriate License to use it. To unlock squares on the License Board, you must first obtain License Points by defeating enemies. Most normal monsters that you encounter yeild 1 LP each, but most boss monsters give many more (see the bestiary section).

This guide will be split into the following sections, not including this introduction.

1. Augments
2. Magicks
3. Technicks
4. Accessories
5. Weapons
6. Protectives
7. Quickenings and Espers

The License Board is the same for every character, and is divided into two roughly equal sections, the upper part for character development (Magicks, Technicks, Augments and Accessories), and the lower part for equipment (Weapons, Armour, Shields). Quickening Licenses are spread out over both sections, while Esper Licenses only appear after you have defeated the relevant bosses.

Party members have very few Licenses available when they first join your party, so they are extremely customizable according to your needs. While it is not necessarily important to give each character a "job" (tank, damage dealer, spellcaster etc.) early on, and until roughly the middle of your adventure, it can be extremely beneficial to have such specialisations amongst party members.

For the average adventurer, completing the game does not require every single License in the game. Just acquire the Licenses that you need at the time (see the walkthrough for more information.) However if you are a completist like me, unlocking every License requires a fairly daunting 13,180 LP, without also taking into account the Quickenings for each character (150 LP) and all of the Esper Licenses (805 LP). If you are aiming to unlock all Licenses then you should aim to acquire six Golden Amulets as soon as possible. These fantastic Accessories double earned LP, even when the characters are in reserve!
