Final Fantasy 6 - World of Ruin Side Quests

Magicite Palidor
Once you get the Falcon, fly to the deserted island, located at the southwest corner of the map. Proceed to the beach and you should spot the magicite there.

Magicite Seraphim
Go to Tzen and head to the northeast portion of town. You should see a thief hiding behind the trees. Speak to him and hand over 10 GP to receive the magicite, Seraphim.

Magicite Bahamut
After obtaining the Falcon, fly around the world map until Doom Gaze appears and fight it. You won't see Doom Gaze flying around; you will be taken to the battle screen immediately when you meet it.

Boss: Doom Gaze
DO NOT use the Vanish - X-Zone trick on this creature. You will lose the magicite if you do so. But if you still want to go for an instant kill without losing the magicite, cast Vanish then Doom.

Doom Gaze is weak against Fire and Pearl, so cast Fire 3 and Pearl spells if you already have them. It also uses L5 Doom, which kills anyone whose levels are divisible by 5. Use your stongest blitz, tools, lore, etc. It is important that you finish this fight quickly, since Doom Gaze will escape after several turns.

Also, be sure to keep your HPs above 1000 as much as possible, to survive this boss' powerful magic attacks.

Magicite Odin & Raiden
[ To Obtain Odin.... ] Head for Figaro Castle, which should be in the desert regions of Kohlingen. Speak to the castle operator and tell him to go to Figaro. The castle then stops about halfway through the journey, and the operator says that something seems wrong with the stratum. Choose "stop and explore". Now proceed to Basement 1, then north through the far right prison and into the dungeon.

Start off by heading south to get a WING EDGE from the chest at the end. Turn back and go east and down the far right staircase for an ETHER. Take the bottom-right exit afterwards. The treasure chest contains a GRAEDUS, that is guarded by a Master Pug. This is a very tough monster, so just use Vanish it then use X-Zone to finish the fight quickly. Return to the previous area.

Make your way to the bottom-left exit. In the next room, head south down the stairs, then west and north to reach a chest with DOOM DARTS. From there, navigate to the next area. In this room, go south for a chest with a MAGICITE, then continue northwest to get an X-POTION. Make your way to the middle of the area and proceed down the stairs. Save your game and go up the stairs.

When you regain control after the story events, head to the northeast room to get a PUNISHER from the chest. Then proceed to the northwest room. The treasure chest contains the OFFERING relic, but it is guarded by a Katana Soul. The guy is weak against Poison, so cast Bio and allow the Poison status wear him down, while your characters work on damaging him as well. Katana Soul's attacks are rather deadly too. So heal your characters when their HPs get too low.

After that battle, head through the center door. Examine the statue in the throne room to get the Odin magicite. Go into the top-right room and grab the BLIZZARD ORB and GOLD HAIRPIN in there.

[ To Obtain Raiden.... ] Do not leave the castle after getting the Odin magicite, instead take the stairs located at the right side of the throne room, down to the basement. Examine the shiny object on the shelf. After reading the queen's diary peek into the bucket in the room to get an X-ETHER. Go back to the throne room afterwards.

There, stand in the middle of the room and take small steps while pressing the "examine" button, until you hear something move. Now return to the basement and head up the new staircase. Continue to the top of the room and check the queen's stone body. Odin will be upgraded to Raiden after that. If you didn't get to learn Meteor from Odin, just wait until you get your hands on Crusader, which allows you to learn the spell a whole lot faster.

You can't use Warp as a shortcut here, so trace your steps all the way back to Figaro Castle.

Magicite Crusader
Listed below is the locations of all 8 dragons.
  • Ice Dragon: Narshe Town. (In the area prior to Tritoch's location)
  • Dirt Dragon: Opera House.
  • Gold Dragon: Kefka's Tower.
  • Red Dragon: Phoenix Cave.
  • Skull Dragon: Kefka's Tower.
  • Storm Dragon: Mt. Zozo
  • White Dragon: Fanatics Tower.
  • Water Dragon: Ancient Castle (where you got Odin/Raiden magicite).
You will receive the Crusader magicite upon beating all 8 dragons.

Return to Narshe
Be sure to have Locke in your party and enter Narshe. Now head to the weapon shop. Inside proceed into the other room and speak to the old man there. He will give you a magicite. You can choose to leave it as the esper Ragnarok or turn it into a sword. The choice is yours to make.

Then go inside the house just above the relics shop, and speak to the man downstairs. He will give you the CURSE SHIELD. You can turn it into the Paladin Shield by fighting 255 battles with it equipped. Be sure to equip the Ribbon relic as well, to counter the shield's effects.

Now proceed into the mines via Arvis' House. Make your way to the moogle cave, and speak to Mog. He will join your party afterwards. Check the wall behind Mog to find a MOOGLE CHARM. Warp out of here afterwards, then head back into town.

Go all the way north into the northern mine entrance. Navigate around here until you get to the upper areas of town. There, you will see a dragon dashing around. Fight it if you want. Otherwise, save your game and continue north. Examine the frozen figure to fight Tritoch.

Boss: Tritoch
This esper absorbs all elements, so don't bother casting elemental spells on it. Instead, focus on using special attacks, like Sabin's Blitz, Cyan's Sword Techs, or Edgar's Tools, since normal physical attacks are useless. Having Celes use Runic will help in dealing with damage from Tritoch's high level magics. The esper also uses Cold Dust, which freezes whoever it hits. You can also use Rasp to Drain away Tritoch's MP.

Or to make things a lot easier, simply have a potent magic user cast Vanish on Tritoch, and have another character cast X-Zone, to end this battle immediately.

After the battle, a hole will appear at the top of the cliff. Jump in to reach a new area at the bottom. Here, take the left stairs up and drop into the trap on the floor. In the next room, go south for a GAUNTLET. Climb up the nearby staircase back to the upper floor. From there, head left for a chest with an X-ETHER. Then take the center stairs back to the starting point. Go for the west exit while avoiding the pitfalls.

The chest contains 3 Pugs, but they will give you the MINERVA when you beat them. After that battle, head straight up and you will drop back to the starting point again. Navigate around and head north using the bridge to the exit. In the next room, ignore the first switch and continue east, then press the next switch. You will drop to the lower floor.

There, examine the skull and take out the magicite Terrato. A creature will then come out and fight you.

Boss: Umaro
This creature shouldn't cause much trouble. Its attacks are pretty weak, but do watch out for its Tackle attack, which is somewhat strong but it misses often. Just use your strongest physical and magic attacks, and you'll win in no time.

You should have Mog in your party, in order to get Umaro to join you. After that, head up the stairs to get out of here.

Return to Doma Castle
Doma castle is located on the island west of the Veldt. Note that you must have Cyan in your party to trigger this quest. In the castle, head to the right room just outside the King's Room. The treasure chest contains an X-POTION. Leave the room and turn back south. Enter either room on both sides and take a rest. Cyan's nightmare should begin after the short story event with the 3 dream stooges.

When you regain control, save your game and start looking for your companions. Once you've found 2 of your party members, navigate to the door at the far left side and head in. Go into the door and the 3 stooges will pick a fight with you.

Boss: Larry, Curley & Moe
I recommend getting rid of the top target first. He uses Pearl Wind, which heals all 3 of them for 9999 HP. That guy is weak against Ice, so have Terra morph and start casting ice spells, while the others use their special abilities. The left target is weak to Fire, while the one to the right seems to be weak to Poison. But your best bet is to cast extreme level "hit all" spells like Ultima and Meteor, since they are capable of reviving each other.

These guys like to cast support spells on each other, so it would help somewhat if you have Dispel. Delta Hit can petrify your characters, so be sure to have some Softs ready. Vanish - X-Zone works on them too.

After the battle, go through the door. You will find yourself in the Ghost Train again. Keep heading left, and you should see Cyan being chased by a ghost. Follow him into that train car. There pull the lever, and run around the table and open the treasure chest, before the crate blocks it again. It contains a GENJI GLOVE.

Head further left and pull the lever. Keep the order of the 6 treasure chests in mind: O = open chest, C = closed chest.

O O C
C C O

Continue left and pick up the LUMP OF METAL from the treasure chest. Turn around and stuff that item into the chest that keeps getting in the way when you try to reach for the treasure behind it. Grab the FLAME SHIELD. Proceed to the next car.

There, pull the first lever and pick up an X-POTION from the chest below, and an ICE SHIELD can be obtained from the chest further left. Pull the left lever, then the right one. This should clear a path for you to reach the middle lever, so go ahead and pull that one. Next, pull the right lever, and then the left one. The crates at the bottom will move and clear a path for you. Proceed left and you will encounter 6 treasure chests. Arrange them in the right order and pull the lever. Proceed to the next car.

Save your game here. Continue left to next car. Reverse the order of the levers and go back out. You will find yourself in the Narshe mines. Follow Cyan to the exit. Do not head for the other cave, go back to where you just came from instead. But notice that this time, the area will be different. Go around to the other side to reach the exit. Try to follow Cyan across the bridge and it will snap, causing you to fall.

You will be back in Doma Castle again. After Cyan's wife and son disappear, a save point will take their place. Use a tent if needed and save your game. Leave the room and make your way to the throne room for a boss fight.

Boss: Wrex-Soul
This boss will vanish at the beginning of the battle, but he will drop a hint before doing so. Do not bother with the Soul Savers because they will just come back the instant you kill them. Wrexsoul reappears only after you kill one or two your party members. Once the boss reappers, you can revive your characters and start attacking.

This boss is weak against Ice, so keep using Ice 3 on him if you have it. This will be a long fight, but there is actually a very simple way to beat him. Vanish does not work on him, so just wait until he uses Zinger to make himself disappear. Once that happens, cast X-Zone and this fight is over.

After the story events, Cyan will gain all his Sword Techs. When you regain control in Doma Castle, go to the king's room and pick up the Alexander magicite. Go back to your airship afterwards.

Journey to Ebot's Rock
Have both Relm and Strago in your party and fly to Thamasa. The town is located on the small island at the southeast corner of the world map. Some story events will take place. When you regain control, return to the airship and fly to the island just north of Thamasa. Head into the cave.

Your field of vision will be limited in here. So start by heading south to the next area. There will be a hungry treasure chest to the north, which refuses to let you through unless you feed it with some coral. You don't have any at the moment, so head south to the next area.

What you need to do here is simple. Just collect as many Corals as you can, then find the hungry chest again and feed it with the corals. Having Mog in your party with the moogle charm equipped will make things easier here. Once the treasure chest is full, it will run off. Follow it and you should meet up with Hidon.

Boss: Hidon
This creature is weak against Fire and Pearl, so cast Fire 3 and Pearl spells to end this battle quickly. Equip the Pearl Rod on Strago or Relm, and they should deal good damage on Hidon; if you're lucky, the weapon will even cast Pearl, causing over 4000 HP of damage. The Hidonites are weak against all elements, so just cast magics on them until they're gone. The Hidonites only have 3500 HP each, so getting rid of them won't take long.

Strago can learn his most powerful Lore, Grand Train, from Hidon. So hopefully, the creature uses it on you.

Return to Fanatics Tower
The "Fight" command will be inaccessible in this tower. So you will have to rely solely on magics, as you fight your way to the top of the tower. You can bring Mog and equip the Moogle Charm on him. This will let you climb up the tower in peace.

Make your way to the top. The treasure chest in the first room contains a SAFETY. The next room further up has a chest with a GENJI SHIELD. The third room of the tower contains a chest with a PEARL LANCE. You can also find the white dragon here. The next room further up has a chest with a FORCE ARMOR. When you reach the top of the tower, go inside the room and grab the GEM BOX relic. The treasure's guardian will prevent you from leaving.

Boss: Magimaster
This boss' magic spells can deal very serious damage. He casts a wall on himself, which gives protection from all elements, except one. If you manage to damage him, the wall changes along with his elemental strengths and weaknesses. Your best bet is to use non-elemental spells such as Flare, Ultima, and Meteor on him. But these spells cost a lot of MP, so having the Gold Hairpin and Economizer relic really helps.

Cast Berserk on Magimaster to prevent him from using magics. His physical attacks are a lot weaker compared to his magic spells, so you're better off dealing with the former than the latter. He also counters with Ultima before he dies. It is very difficult to survive this, unless you have very high magic defense, or high HP. To get around this, simply cast Life 3 on all your characters before you go for the kill.

Obtaining Sabin's Bum Rush Blitz
Head to Duncan's House, which is located northeast of Narshe. Look for a small mountain with 4 or so trees in front of it. Walk towards the trees, and you should be able to access a hidden area. Be sure to have Sabin in your party. And after some fight scenes between him and Duncan, you will get the Bum Rush.

Obtaining Gogo
Fly to Triangle Island, which is located at the northeast corner of the world map. There, run around until you encounter an enemy called Zone Eater. Let it engulf your entire party, and you will end up in a hidden area.

When you get here, head south to the next area. Hop onto the bridges to get across to the left end of the area. Make sure to grab the MAGICAL BRUSH, GENJI ARMOR, & FAKE MUSTACHE treasures along the way. Try to avoid getting in contact with the green men. They will just push you off, causing you to fall to the bottom, and you'll have climb back up. But if you do fall, be sure to pick up the RED JACKET & ETHER from the chests at the bottom.

After getting the treasure at the far left end of the second area, hop to the northmost bridge and head west to the exit. In the next area, SAVE your game and continue on. In this room, the ceiling acts as crusher, so if it falls on you, then it is game over. That's why I told you to save. Make your way to the left, while making use of the safe spots to avoid getting crushed. Be sure to equip the sprint shoes here.

Pick up the ZEPHYR CAPE, HERO RING, & TACK STAR. Stand in front of the first two treasure chests to be safe. To reach the third one, stand on the floor directly under the open spot of the ceiling, then run towards the chest. Quickly run south before the ceiling drops, and head for the exit.

In the next area, you will have to hop on the treasure chests to get acoss the pits. From the starting point go right, then hop north to get to a switch. This extend a short bridge to allow access to the THUNDER SHIELD further left. Make your way to the exit. In the next room, speak to Gogo and he/she will join you.
