Final Fantasy VII Walkthrough - Shinra Headquarters

Items: Four Potions, An Elixir and One Enemy Skill Materia
Go to sector 6 and follow the children running from a fight they will go past Corneos' Mansions. Ask them what they are doing and they will tell you that they are climbing the pipe to the upper city. There's no point going up the pipe now, as you need batteries at various points to continue climbing.

Go to the scrap/weapon shop and buy three batteries. Climb up the pipe and at certain points you will see rectangular ports/sockets where you will need to insert the batteries, however one battery can be used to unlock a chest. Continue on and you will eventually reach the top.

When you approach the Shinra building there will be a cut-scene where you can choose to either enter with a bang via the main entrance or creep in surreptitiously up A LOT of stairs. If you take the stairs you have to go up nine sets of stairs but there are no enemies here and there is an Elixir on the fifth set, however you are running for a very long time. If you take this path you enter the building on level 59.

If you enter through the front entrance you will encounter guards straight away but there is an Item Shop near the front of the place, which can be useful. There are two chests in the back of this area but don't try to open them because you won't be able to until later on into the game (the end of disc two).

The enemies are easy so there's no point levelling up. When you're ready take the elevator to the 59th floor. There isn't anything on this floor apart from the key card, for which you have to defeat the group of guards near the stairs but it is essential to get to 60th floor.

The building works on a key card system, every floor above the 60th requires a key card to reach, On the 60th floor run into the room of the left where you can break in, you have to fight four guards here. The guard follow a simple system but don't worry about fighting them, they're easy and its exp. Now use the large stairway to get to the next floor.

On the 61st floor talk to the man near the stairs and he'll give you the next key card. Proceed to climb; there isn't anything on this floor. On the next floor visit Mayor Domino on the left room. He'll complain about not having anything to do and will tell you he'll give you the key card to get to the next few floors. You'll need to figure out a password before he'll give you the 63rd, 64th, and 65th key card.

The person outside the door will sell you hints and each hint costs more than the last, but it is the easiest way to figure it out. You get Elemental materia if you guess the password correct first time. Personally on my first time around I guessed "MAKO" and it was right, but I'm not sure if it's the same every time.

The mans hints are:
* There are four research libraries on the floor with four different section of the complex
* Parts of the password are hidden in each
* There is one file in each library mixed in from another library
* There's a number at the beginning of each file that is important
* You have to match the number with the letters in the title of the file

You should be able to find it out from these, if not just guess because you get another elemental materia later on in the game.

Use the staircase and proceed to the 63rd floor. There isn't any task to do here but the items are useful. Go to the computer and it will give you access to the security doors, however you can open just three doors. To get all the items you have to open certain doors. When and if you get the three coupons you can turn them in for a Star Pendant, All materia and a Four Slots, which has four materia slots.

Now go to the 64th floor which is a big recreational complex, save at the save point. Go to the locker room and inspect all the lockers for items. In one of them there will be a Megaphone (weapon), you can't use it yet but be sure to go get it at the end of the second disc, as it's Cait Siths' ultimate weapon.

Now go to the next floor here there will be a large model of Midgar but there are pieces missing around the edge, you will need to get the pieces from the chests in the rooms, only one will be unlocked at a time. Open the unlocked chest and fit the piece, another chest will open. Once you have completed this model you will get the next key card (66th floor).

On this floor head over to the bathroom, enter the cubicle and choose to climb up. Once in the vent system follow it and you will arrive at a vent which over looks the conference room, now you will see a cut-scene In which Shinra fat-cats are discussing Aeris, you will see Hojo for the first time. When the scene has finished leave the way you came in and follow the Shinra to the next floor.

When you arrive continue to follow Hojo, who will move towards a room containing his specimen "Jenova", look through the small window (not pretty) and Cloud will act strangely. Go to the save point in the top right hand corner of the room where you can get poison materia. Head up the stairs to the 68th floor but not before you get into some fights, from these you can steal Carbon Bangles, Moth Slashes and a Hardedge, which are useful items.

On the 68th floor you will see Aeris here enclosed in a cylindrical specimen container, Hojo is near by and preparing to experiment on her and puts RedXIII into the container with her. RedXIII begins to act up and Cloud frees Aeris. You will get to name Red XIII here; he offers to lend you a hand in defeating Hojo (note: Red XIII comes with Fire Materia equipped). Choose one character to stay with Aeris and equip your team with armour and materia. I recommend leaving someone with close range attacks to stay as the up coming bosses can only be attacked at long range.

Boss: HO512
This boss comes with fallen drones that it can re-new, therefore attacking the main boss will quicken this fight (it can't bring back its drones if its dead). Close range attacks cannot reach this boss so seeing as Barret is the only character with long-range I suggest you use him to attack every round, as for the others, make sure you have Lightening materia equipped as this mechanical boss is weak against it.

When this fight has finished you will see yellow Enemy Skill materia that has miraculously appeared in the cylindrical container. Get the next key card and head on down to the 66th floor, get into the elevators and the Turks Reno and Rude will be waiting for you here. They will take you to President Shinra. After a cut-scene in which The President talks about the Promise land and how he believes Aeris is the key to getting there you will be taken to prison cells on the 67th floor.

When you go to the door you will be given the option to check on everyone else. Talk to them all and take a nap. When you wake up you will be greeted by eerie music and an open cell door, head down the corridor and check on the guard at the end of it. He is dead, head back and wake-up Tifa and free everyone else. Go back to where Jenova was, you'll see that it's missing and that all the staff members that were on that floor are dead.

Now follow the blood train to president Shinra's office, you will find him dead at his desk impaled by Sephiroth's sword, Cloud will say that only Sephiroth can use that sword and Heidegger will start to run away. Head over to the roof. When you arrive the newly stated president Rufus will land in his helicopter.

Boss: Hundred Gunner and Heli Gunner
This is weak to Bolt and Physical Limit Breaks. Finish this fight quickly using your powerful attacks, as this will stop it using it special move.

When you finished Hundred Gunner you'll need to fight HeliGunner. Use potions and restore materia to heal and apart from that use the same strategy on this one as you did on the first. For winning you will get a Mythril Armlet

Now you and Rufus have talk and this will lead to a fight in which Cloud will have to fight him alone while the others escape.

Boss: Rufus
Make sure Cloud has restore materia. You get to decide when the battle begins. It's a good idea to kill the goon that comes with him as he has powerful magic. I also suggest equipping an elemental/lightening materia combination on your armour, if you have elemental, as this will aid you against Rufus's Dark Nation gun. This combination should mean that, if you continuously attack him normally and heal when you need to he shouldn't be too hard to defeat.

Now you will have control of Aeris, once she gets to the door another team member will shout her and tell her to leave the building. When you do there will be a nice FMV showing Cloud going down the stairs on his motorbike while the others get into a small truck.

Now you will need to defend your comrades as you follow the road out of Midgar. Instructions as to how to attack the enemy and steer the bike will appear. Familiarise yourself with the controls and start. Stay near to the truck and attack enemy's that come close with your sword, it's a good idea to attack the bikes at the front, because when they fall down others may crash into it therefore there will be fewer enemies for you to attack. At the end of the road there will be a large mechanical boss.

Boss: Tank
This is weak to lightening magic so use this and physical limit breaks and attacks, cure using restore materia and potions when necessary. This one should be fairly easy to beat, just pummel it.

When you beat it you will see a cut scene in which the group decides there is no going back. You will drive off the end and land near to the Sector Five gates, run to it and you will climb over the wall. Barret will talk about a town name Kalm. Choose your team and leave Midgar.
