Final Fantasy VII Walkthrough - Costa del Sol and Mount Corel

Items: Tifa's Motor Drive, Silver Armlet, Fire Ring, Wizard Staff, Star Pendant, W-Machine Gun,
Turbo Ether, Ether, Wind Slash, Two Power Sources, Ten Phoenix Downs, Mind Source,
Transform Materia, Tent, Ramuh Materia, Ranch Materia, All Materia and Ifrit Materia

Now you will be on board a Shinra Ship the group will be in disguises (Red XIII is wobbling around on two legs in a sailors suit). Open all the chests then go to the front of the ship where Barret will be hiding and listening in on Rufus and Heidegger.

An alarm will start to sound so create your party and head to the cargo hold. Most of the crew is dead and those remaining are on edge. The remaining Shinra soldiers will spot you and you'll have to fight a few sets of guards but they're extremely easy. Approach the standing guard at the bottom of the cargo bay and he'll fall dead at your feet, go through and you'll find Sephiroth. He will fly out of the room suddenly and leaves you with Jenova-Birth while he escapes.

Boss: Jenova-Birth
This boss is a little tricky as she uses her Laser tail, which costs your characters about 200hp each time. Jenova can also cast stop on your characters. Fire and Ice are effective here so use Shiva Summon and Fire Materia. Choco-mog is also very useful. She does some powerful attacks but keep healing when you need to and you'll be fine.

She will leave behind the Ifrit Summon Materia when you have defeated her. You will now see the boat sailing over the ocean and docking in the Costa del Sol. When you leave the ship talk to all the people and then walk down to the beach and talk to the people there, starting with the girls then moving onto the Shinra's. Now go down to the beach. You'll find Hojo on a sun bed surrounded by women, talk to him and he mutters about you going to Mount Corel.

Buy materia, better weapons and items especially softs from the shops. And that's all that there is to do around here really but later in the game you can buy President Shinra's Villa for 300,000 Gil. Note that President Shinra's beach house is being sold for 300,000 Gil. Check out some of the basements of the inns and houses for some items. Oh and you'll find Johnny (the same guy as outside the honey bee Inn in sector 6) muttering about Tifa and how he wants her to be happy.

Leave the Costa del Sol, head north until you see the path that goes between the two mountains, follow if until you see an opening into the mountain. Go into the opening and continue up the rocky path, you'll come across a man saying that another man in a black cape came past. Carry on and you'll see the mako reactor, go down the stairs and follow them out of the bottom side of the screen where you'll find some train tracks, continue down these ensuring you get all the chests and the transform materia (also when the track collapses repeatedly press either left or right so you're in with a chance of getting the items on the way back up. Head across all of the tracks and talk to all of your party members, which are waiting by a bridge, which you have to lower, to do this go into the wooden shack and push the switch, then keep following the track to the end where you can enter an a nest of birds, if you fight them you get ten phoenix downs.

Head down a long bridge and then you'll enter the run down town of North Corel, which was originally a coal-mining town where Barret grew up. He receives an unwelcome attitude when you arrive because of his past. Buy new weapons and armour at the shanty shops and go past the sign reading "Gold Saucer".

Before you get on the ropeway Barret will launch into the story of his past and the downfall of North Corel.

The story goes: Corel was a simple coal-mining town but the Shinra came and suggested plans to the townsfolk about building a Mako reactor there. Barret pushed the other members into joining. There was an explosion at the Reactor and The Shinra blamed North Corel's townsfolk. Assuming that it was a terrorist attack they burned the town to the ground, most of the people were killed and Barret was made an outcast.

Get into the car and you'll be taken to the gold saucer, you'll have to pay to enter (3000gil for a one time pass and 30,000Gil for a lifetime pass). You get to choose a character to accompany you around the attractions in the main station. When you have chosen you can jump down the Wonder Square chute to get Cait Sith. Talk to him a few times and you will get to name him. Then play some games if you want and explore the rest. When you're ready go to the battle square. When you arrive you'll find some Shinra soldiers dead and one of the dying men says it was also a man with a gun grafted into his arm. For some strange reason the gold saucer boss Dio you did it (even though the soldier said the man had a gun graft) and throws you into the dessert prison.

The prison is surrounded by quicksand and through talking to prisoners you'll learn that you won't be able to get out of the prison in any normal way. The fights around here are quiet annoying and repetitive. There are bandits that steal your items, you can get these back if you kill them quickly and stop them running away, but if the disappear you can't retrieve them. In a small run down house to the southeast of the second section of the prison you'll find Barret.

Follow him out into the open area where you will learn more about his past and how he got the gun grafted into his arm. Scarlet of the Shinra order some soldiers to shoot at Barret and Dyne, Dyne falls down the cliff and Barret attempts to hold onto him but gun shots at their arms are ordered and they both loose their arms. Go back to the area where you first entered the prison and there will be another dead man killed like those at the Sauce so go through the right gate and you will run into Dyne who is very bitter about what happened four consequently he is set on destroying practically everything starting with the Shinra. He'll get angry and Barret will have to fight him on his own.

Boss: Dyne
Use Barret's normal attacks over and over while using Potions to heal; also it isn't a good idea to let your hp drop below about 375/400 because Dyne sometimes does double attacks. At the end of the battle when Dyne is weak he'll probably use Molotov cocktail, which can do about 160hp damage. You'll receive a silver armlet.

Dyne, like the Turks isn't dead after you fight him, but he is wounded. Dyne gives Barret a pendant to give to Marlene and Barret will try to help him, but he jumps down the gorge anyway.

The next morning you'll meet the chocobo racer and you will be able to win your way out of prison if you can win the race in the Golden Saucer. You will meet Ester a race manager and she tells you how to control your chocobo in the race. The she'll lend you a chocobo to race with. Don't forget to grab Ramuh Summon Materia.

Now to the race: This race isn't hard you just need to get used to the controls, also I recommend that you use Manual control for good control over stamina usage. Once you win, you will get out of jail. Don't' worry if you loose because you can attempt it as many times as you like until you do.

Dio will apologize for the mix-up and will give you his buggy so you can leave the dessert, this is an OK vehicle that can cross the rivers at shallow points but you can still get into fights.
