Final Fantasy VII Walkthrough – Midgar

Items: Aegeis Armlet, Max Ray, Pile Banger, Master Fist, Glow Lance, STarlight Phone, Mystile, Missing Score, Three Elixirs, Megalixir, Power Source, Guard Source, Mind Source, Magic Source, HP Shout Materia, W-Item Materia.
Okay, I've got to warn you, this area is prime for boss fights so I just hope your characters are at high levels. If not this area will be a drag. As you leave Cait Sith will tell you that Junon's Cannon has been moved to Midgar because they've made a new Weapon to fire at the barrier around Sephiroth and consequently stopping Meteor.

Now you'll see a cut scene with Scarlet and the rest, in it you'll find out that Reeve is the Shinra employee who has been controlling Cait Sith. As the team approaches Highwind, the Earth will sort of shatter and you'll see that one of the Weapons is flying towards Midgar, so fly back there and land the Highwind. Form a strong party and equip them with your most powerful summon Materia and Magic, including all three Bahamuts', Phoenix will come in handy for reviving, Ultima, Comet2 and if you have any other really powerful summons such as Nights Of The Round (gotten by getting a Gold Chocobo) use them to. Also make someone a "healer", by that I mean equipping "All-Revive", "All-Cure", "All-Haste" and "All-Barrier" material combinations on one person and at least an "All-Cure", "All-Revive" combo on another person in case the healer dies.

Boss: Diamond Weapon
Cast Wall and Haste off the bat. Then use all the powerful stuff e.g. Bahamut Zero, Ultima and Comet 2. Magic is paramount here because Diamond has a very high physical defence. This Weapon has a countdown to its best attack, on the upside this gives you three moves to Wall yourself if its worn off, heal yourself and get a little extra damage over on it. On the down side the attack takes about 2400+hp from every teammate. Once it's done this attack put your healer to work and use the All-Cure combination to your advantage by using Cure3 on everyone. It should fly off after a while

There will be an FMV now, in it you'll see Weapon firing at Midgar, Rufus will be hit directly and killed. In retaliation the Sister Ray is fired back at weapon, it slices through it easily and finishes the Job you started on weapon. After killing Weapon the beam continues through to the Crater and breaks the barrier. Go back onto Highwind and move north, you'll see the barrier has gone from the crater. In a cut-scene Cait Sith will tell you that the Sister Ray is over loading and putting Midgar in danger.

Then we find out that it is being over loaded at the main system, this is Hojo's handiwork. The beam is likely to malfunction if it is fired again so soon. Now fly to Midgar, don't get out of Highwind just fly directly into it and you'll need to make a party, put Barret in this party because in this area you'll be able to get his ultimate weapon - Missing Score. Once you've chosen you'll all slide and parachute down. When you land, follow Cait Sith and you'll be given another opportunity to make a party.

Now collect all the items in chests etc. nearby and go to the ladder at the platform. You'll now be in a sort of maze of doorways and ladders but like most things in this game it looks more complicated than it is. Try to get every item you see, they may be hard to get to but a lot of them are worth it, Tifa's God Punch for example.

Eventually you'll reach a floor with a save point, so use it to Tent yourself and save and head through the door. Head south first to get all the items from there then go back and save. Go back through the door and head North, the Turks will arrive and you can choose to fight them. I think this fight is useful because not only does it give you experience but if you Steal from them you get some nice items, Reno - Tough, Ring Rude - Ziedrich, Elena - Minerva band.

Boss: The Turks
These are surprisingly tough this time around, cast Wall/Barrier and Haste on your party then proceed to pummel Elena first, she uses confusion which is pretty annoying, although she is tougher than she looks. Also your Bahamut's and Ultima won't go a miss here. Next take out either Rude or Reno, but concentrate on just one at a time - Rude can take off up to 2800/2900hp damage when his attacks get critical (hence the need for Wall or Barrier). Wall is useful to lessen Reno's Lightening attacks.

When you win, save at the save point and head north. Take the second left to get to the Shinra headquarters, on floor 64 there are the lockers in the recreational area I mentioned back in the "Shinra Headquarters" section. Get Cait Sith's ultimate weapon from one of the lockers, also pick up the glow lance from behind a door which was locked last time around. Shop at the gift store to stock up. Now go back into the tunnels to where you took the left turn and this time take the right turn instead.

This will take you to an area near the Sister Ray that has brick floors, save then go down the south street. Now Scarlet and Heidegger will turn up in a big Mechanical thing called Proud Clod and yep, you guessed it, you'll have to fight it.

Boss: Proud Clod
This beastly thing consists of two parts, the body and the armour. Focus first on the armour as this protects the main body and once removed the rest will be easy. Begin this fight by casting Haste and Wall. Use your powerful summons again along with Ultima and Comet 2 because these will hurt both parts, therefore leaving you with less to do when you've destroyed the armour. Practically everything does the same amount of damage here from most magic to normal attacks so if you’re low on ethers use physical attacks and save your Mp for the next boss. His beam cannon takes around 900hp+ from everyone on your team when he uses it, but Wall lessens this. Proud Clod also takes around 1000hp from one person using its gun, which is lessened again by Wall. Also, annoyingly, this boss can cast reflect on your party so use Debarrier to get rid of it.

Save again, equip yourself (especially with Ribbons) and go up the stairs. If you are using Barret there'll be a chest with Missing Score in it. Go to the top, past Vincent (if you're not using him at the moment) and you'll find Hojo overloading the Sister Ray. In the scene you will learn all about Hojo's connection with Sephiroth. You'll also learn that Hojo himself has been injected with Jenova cells. He'll say, "lets see the results!" and you'll have to fight him.

Boss: Hojo 1
Hojo will summon some annoying fiends here but ignore them because when you kill Hojo 1 they'll disappear, and if Hojo's alive when you kill them, he'll just regenerate them anyway. Use normal attacks and cast Wall and Haste simply for preparation in the next fight. He should go down easily then change form.

Boss: Hojo 2
I think this is even uglier than Jenova. Hojo's arms can be removed and even though normally id object to this because they can regenerate, take them out, especially the right arm whose' stabbing motion can take off 1000hp+, so when it regenerates take this one out again. Replenish any barriers that have disappeared and proceed to use Ultima, Comet 2 and Bahamut Zero/Neo-Bahamut. He should go down after a while and change form yet again

Boss: Hojo 3
If you have a Ribbon on at least one party member then you should get through this fight. Hojo 3 will do a move called "Combo", which adds many status ailments to your members. If all members go to sleep then you will die slowly from the poisoning he's inflicted on you. Ribbons will prevent this. M-barrier/ Wall = very useful. Unleash Comet 2, Ultima and the Bahamuts (Phoenix to if two party members are dead). It should die after a while.

Once you've defeated Hojo you'll learn that the Shinra has basically broken down because of all the high rankers being killed, this is good news because 1) You can beat Sephiroth now and 2) Personally I never really liked them anyway. Once you're back on Highwind Cloud will explain all about his past to the rest of the party, about how he couldn't make it in SOLDIER and why he wants Sephiroth dead.

Apparently there is seven days left until meteor strikes and Cloud gives everyone the chance to see everyone they love and to choose whether or not they want to come back and fight. Tifa will stay behind with Cloud because everything she loved and had was destroyed in sector 7 and Nibleheim. There'll be a scene where Cloud and Tifa share a moment. When everyone comes back there'll be a cut scene in which everyone says why he or she is fighting.
