Final Fantasy VII Walkthrough – Northern Crater
Items: Hi-Potion, Ether, Kaiser Knuckle, Poison Ring, MP Turbo Materia, Neo Bahamut Summon Materia
Follow the path and ensure you get the Neo Bahamut Materia, which is on the ground. A little along the path The Shinra fat-cats show up, Rufus, Hojo, Heidegger and Scarlet. Don't take any notice of them and carry along the path. Now you'll come to an area where you have to go across the path, but there is a strong wind blowing across it, you'll see sort of bands of strong wind amongst the normal wind, so cross just after on of the bands. If you hit a band then you'll need to fight. Before the end of the path equip yourself with your Bahamut's and any other strong summons and materia, including Comet. It's also useful to equip Fire rings. At the end of the path you'll see Sephiroth killing the black capes. Now you'll have to fight Jenova-Death (how many are there of her?!)
Boss: Jenova-Death
This form of Jenova doesn’t attack physically so cast M-Barrier instead of Wall to save Mp for your big summons. An All-Barrier combination will save your mp and make defending yourself easier so you can concentrate on attacking her here. Secondly cast slow on her because she isn't immune and it lasts a long time on her. Use your both your Bahamut Summons, Shiva and Comet.
The only annoying thing is that Jenova uses Silence on your characters, but as long as you have Echo Screens you can continue to pummel her with Magic. If you don't have so many 'screens don't worry because physical attacks are also effective. You'll get a Reflect ring for defeating her.
This fight should be easy if you use some/most of the Materia and equipment etc I suggested.
Now Cloud will decide to give the Black Materia to someone else because he doesn't want to risk giving it back to Sephiroth. It doesn’t matter who you choose here so pick and move on, grab the MP Turbo Materia and save.
The next area will be similar to the windswept one, except this time, along with wind you'll have to dodge Lightening as well. In the next area Sephiroth will show you a flashback of five years ago, except according to Sephiroth Cloud isn't there, so we see Zack (the spiky black haired one) running into town where Cloud should be. Sephiroth said that Cloud was a failed experiment in the quest to clone Sephiroth and that Hojo made him, by attaching Cloud to Tifa's Memories, He'll show you a picture of Tifa, Zack and Sephiroth instead of the one Cloud remembers being taken.
Tifa is upset by this and becomes a little confused. Cloud will start finding holes in his memories of this occasion but disregards them. At the crater you'll see and talk to Rufus and the other Shinra. Now the person to whom you gave the Black Materia will see Tifa telling them to bring it to the crater, when the character runs off you'll see that its really Sephiroth disguised as her, the character will go to the crater and hand back the Materia, in a nice FMV form. You'll see an eye in the wall and Rufus says that you all have to evacuate, there'll be another FMV, which features the gang escaping in Highwind.
