Final Fantasy VIII Walkthrough – Back at Timber
After the battle you'll meet again in the briefing room, during the cut-scene you'll be told that the President is in Timber to make a broadcast to the world, which Selphie realises must be the reason for repairing the Communication Tower. After Rinoa and friend huddle to devise a strategy, speak to Selphie who will ask about the contract, then speak to Rinoa. She'll give you a formal, complicated contract initially but after Squall displays his confusion, she will hand you a much simpler one. It turns out that you have to stay in Timber until its independence has been declared. Rinoa will tell you that they have created a strategy; they are going to take over the broadcast for their own purposes. So when you arrive in town Watts will tell you that the TV Station is located behind Timber Maniacs, but before slipping down the path in front of the Galbadia train platform to get there check out the Pet shop for Pet Pals Vol's 3 and 4 and some supplies for your GF's. Then go to the little gift shop next door, the man will show you a map that you cannot buy. Now head north into town, visit the weapons shop to upgrade any weapons (if you have the items to do so) and save your game in the hotel next door. If you continue through town you will help some independent speaking, Timber security guards who are about to be attacked for sassing the Galbadian soldiers who are forcing them to watch the town gate. After this fight head back to the train station and pass down the path that leads right (located in front of the Galbadia platform). At the end of the path you'll see Timber maniacs right in front of you, go right and you'll see a platform leading to a tunnel (that you don't need to use right now) and some steps leading down to the Pub. So head on down, after a cut-scene involving some Galbadian soldiers they'll attack you but you'll be able to bring them down easily. Now go to the draw point to stock some cure spells and head into the pub. In here you'll discover that you need to move the moody drunk in order to go down the back alley to the TV Station, either buy him a drink or ask him about the card you received when you defeated the soldiers, either way you get a Card and he moves. Down the alley there is a save point so use it then visit the draw point to stock some Scan spells, there is also a drunk who you can play at cards If you wish (he's useless). Go down the alley and up the stairs leading to the TV Station, when you reach the screen there will be a scene with Rinoa and at the end of it she will storm off, but the other party member you're not using (either Zell or Selphie) conveniently turns up as she does so. Unfortunately it looks as though you're too late and the broadcast begins, however soon after the broadcast is interrupted by Quistis and Seifer. It turns out that Seifer heard about Rinoa and decided to stop the president and that Quistis is there to stop him. Quistis will call for your help so head on up the stairs and follow them to the studio. Once inside Quistis will explain everything and Seifer will leave with the president.
Follow Quistis and you'll see the Sorceress appear through a portal as Seifer is holding the president, after a while the Sorceress and Seifer leave together through the portal and the president threatens action on the Garden. Go down the stairs and Rinoa will tell you that the Forest Owl's base had been destroyed. Follow Quistis and Rinoa through the alley and save your game before heading into the Pub again. Rinoa will lead you to her house then you'll meet the Forest Fox resistance teams leader, she'll offer you a place to stay for a while. After a few cut-scenes involving some Galbadian soldiers arriving and the team fleeing up stairs you'll be told that the Galbadian soldiers are withdrawing, making it the best time to leave. Squall will decide to follow clause 8:4 - When unable to report to your own garden report to the nearest garden.
This means you need to head to Galbadia garden and the only way to do this is to catch the last train to East Academy Station. Talk to the soldier outside (Zone in disguise) and then head up to the platform with the tunnel and talk to Watt's who will give you the tickets. Head down the tunnel to the station, save your game at the save point then continue to the platform and hop onto the train. Talk to everyone and unlock the door for Selphie, once she goes through talk to her and she'll sing a song. Talk to Zell and choose "leave him alone" to end the journey.
