Final Fantasy VIII Walkthrough – Balamb garden under attack
You’ll need to go to sorceress’s lighthouse, this is hard to find if you don’t know where it is, however that’s what this is here for, so from Trabia go directly north until you get to the continent that’s so north its south, the ground will be a reddish colour and follow the southern coast of the continent in a westerly direction until you find the lighthouse, which is located on a point on the edge of the land.
When you arrive you cannot enter the lighthouse and when you try Squall will say that it looks familiar and that’s there’s something big near by, sure enough if you look behind you you’ll see Galbadia garden in midair over a forest. Get in Balamb garden and drive directly up to it. The view will change to the commanders room, you will need to issue some commands and once you’ve done that choose your party and go down to 2F, there you should talk to everybody and get them into position also look for a little blond boy near the classroom who will give you a cottage.
Go back to the lift and down to F1 where you’ll need to go to the Quad, once there Zell will ask you for your ring and Rinoa will arrive. Talk to her and you’ll be called to the bridge, you’ll see an FMV of the two gardens colliding and will gain control of Zell. Junction exchange everybody and go down the stairs back into the Quad area, pass through and the two gardens will collide again, a piece of floor will break away and Rinoa will be left hanging on for dear life. You’ll need to get help so go to the front gate, as you’re passing through the directory you’ll see Squall and gang running through as well. At the gate you’ll find out that the classroom is under attack, which is where all the junior class men are. As Squall junction yourself and your team and head up there.
You’ll see an FMV of the soldiers crashing through the window and will have to fight a few of them, they’re not really hard but will cast status ailments on you such as stop, slow and silence. Once this fights over talk to the SeeD comforting the small children and they’ll go to the infirmary for safety. Once outside you’ll be called to the 3F as the doctor is there. There will be a scene and you will conclude that the best way is to launch an attack and you are forced to save Rinoa while the others proceed with the attack so head down in the lift and you’ll get out on 2F, here you’ll find a young girl who will ask you to find someone who’s missing. Go around the corner and talk to the young boy on the floor. After he toddles off a Galbadian paratrooper thing will attack you, don’t be brave and threaten him because it doesn’t work and lowers your chances of winning what’s coming, instead look for another option then confirm on the door and open the emergency exit. The two of you will fly through and you’ll have a fight in mid-air hanging off the abseiling wire. The best bet here is to alternately hit X and Square, that way you’ll block enough to execute the deathblow which comes after so many consecutive blockings and cause him damage. When you win you’ll fly over and rescue Rinoa. Once on the ground run left, once at the garden entryway there will be another awkward scene with Rinoa and Squall (about how everyone is trying to get them together J) and you’ll head into the garden. Once inside there’ll be a cut-scene and you’ll need to pick a team. Save at the save point and go right, then through the entryway on the right and up the stairs. You’ll see Fuijin and Raijin and they’ll tell you that the rest is up to you as they don’t understand Seifer anymore, once this scene has finished go left and through the door on the right. The boy will give you a key so go down stairs to the save point, use it then head left through the large door on the left. Once in the hockey rink walk towards the furthest goal, stock on some protect spells and leave through the door on the far right. In the next room there will be another boy who will give you another key.
Go up the small stairs and through the door, you’ll find yourself on the balcony above the tennis courts. Squall and gang will jump down, now stock on some Shells. Continue along the corridor to the central square where you’ll see a monster in the centre under the light, save at the save point just behind it then confirm on it to fight it, this boss is optional but if you beat him you acquire him as a GF which is well worth the trouble of fighting him.
Boss: Cerberus This beast has 10,000 Hp and is probably harder to beat than Edea who you encounter a little later on in this section. Draw Triples from him and cast them on yourselves, once you’ve done that triple-cast shell, protect and haste on everyone and proceed to physically attack him. DO NOT USE QUESZACOTL as he absorbs lightening and you really don’t want that. When he casts triple on him, dispel it straight away, as for single cast magic spells the only thing you can do it cast shell and hope for the best. Continue to pummel him and hit him with Diablos which is very effective and he should go down after a little while, if not I suggest you try again because if you have him as a GF every time he’s used he casts triple and double on your party.
Once you’ve beaten Cerberus go through the left path, down here use the door to the left and you’ll find a student who will give you the last key. Now go north again and all the way up the stairs to the elevator, which will take you to where Edea is. Once in the room with them save at the save point and walk up to them. After a short cut scene you’ll have to fight Seifer.
Boss: Seifer At level 27 and with 9100hp Seifer is a little tougher than last time, he has acquired more magic spells and now does a powerful physical attack called Demon slice which is pretty lethal if you don’t have protect cast. Start off by using the newly acquired Cerberus or casting triple on everyone. Once this is done triple cast shell haste and protect. Use Diablos on him as this removes about 2000hp every hit and Mug some mega phoenixes from him, its also useful to triple cast Bio on him as each attack will remove 300hp approx per casting, and therefore taking about 900hp from him per triple cast if you do this. Other than that, save your magic as he has a high resistance to it, just continually hit him with attacks (it may also benefit you to cast Aura on your guys to get some extra powerful physical attacks or extremely helpful limit breaks such as Invincible moon, which is awesome, and Selphie’s full cure). This battle can be very long as he keeps using hi-potions and GF’s don’t take off 1000hp per go, so he keeps using them, the trick is to bring out Diablos the minuet he uses one to remove 2000hp.
At the end of this fight Edea will disappear and you’ll need to go to the auditorium situated below so get in the lift and travel to the lower floor, once there go straight down the corridor until you’re above where Cerberus was, from there go right around the circle to the save point, use it and continue going right until on the ground floor. Walk towards the draw point (very annoying to see as you can never use it), where Edea will appear and the battle will begin.
Boss: Edea and Seifer Seifer turns up to join her and you’ll have to go through him to get to Edea, basically take the time of this fight to get yourself prepared for Edea as Seifer is wounded and not much of a threat. Bring out Cerberus or cast triple then triple-cast Shell Protect and Haste. Repeatedly use Diablos on him to get rid of him quickly and Mug him for a Hero. Once he’s beaten you’ll have to take on Edea. Edea has 16,000hp and is at Level 32, her magic resistance is very high but Diablos is still very effective and removes about 3000hp per turn. At the start of this battle draw the GF Alexander from her, during it, replenish Haste and Shell but don’t bother with Protect, as she never attacks you physically during the whole fight (also don’t bother with Reflect either despite this as her spell’s can’t be reflected). Also be sure to mug a Royal crown from her. Edea is not immune to stop and sleep so if your hp gets real low cast this on her then triple cast Cura on everyone to recuperate. She uses a range of attacks from Blizzaga to Death and a special magical attack that can remove about 800hp and casts curse on everyone. Hit her with the physical attacks and Diablos whilst healing in between and you should be fine.
After the fight you’ll see a scene where Rinoa starts to act strangely, Edea will talk to you as Matron, calling you Squall and Quistis etc and you’ll black out.
