Last Order: Final Fantasy VII Characters

Cloud Strife

When Cloud was younger, he set out to become a SOLDIER and work under Sephiroth’s command in the Shin-Ra army, leaving Tifa with a promise saying he will rescue her when she is ever in trouble. Cloud, however, never made 1st Class SOLDIER, yet became a normal Shin-Ra. When he was sent back to his hometown of Nibelheim for an investigation, things went ill and Sephiroth burned the town. Cloud hurried to the Nibelheim Mako Reactor in the mountains to find the badly hurt Tifa and Zack, both defeated by Sephiroth. Cloud, grabbed Zack’s buster sword, attacked Sephiroth, stabbing him through his stomach. Cloud, believing he had killed Sephiroth, ran to Tifa, fulfilling his promise to come to her when she was ever in a pinch. Moments later, Cloud was distracted by the breaking of Jenova’s pod. Sephiroth had emerged out of Jenova’s vault, and when Cloud attempted to attack him again, Cloud was stabbed through the stomach by Sephiroth’s blade and held over the Lifestream. Cloud, wanting his revenge on Sephiroth, pulled himself into the sword to land his feet on the ground and thrust Sephiroth backwards, away from him. When Cloud was able to regain his feet, Sephiroth jumped into the Lifestream along with the head of Jenova. Cloud then fainted from the immense pain and sword still inside his body.

When Hojo ran experiments on Cloud after the events at Nibelheim, Cloud lost his entire memory, leaving him a comatose-like state. A long period of time later, about five years, Zack was able to break out of the Shin-Ra Mansion, taking Cloud with him. Zack died protecting Cloud outside of Midgar, and Cloud’s comatose state somehow lifts and he flees to Midgar. Cloud meets up with Tifa, and somehow his Jenova cells took her memories of Zack and Cloud and formed new memories for Cloud, leading him to believe he was Zack, besides his name.

Zack

One of the few 1st class SOLDIERS working for Shin-Ra, Zack was part of the investigation at the Nibelheim Reactor. When the investigation went ill by Sephiroth’s rage, Zack ran through the flames that now scorched Nibelheim to the reactor beyond the mountains in order to confront Sephiroth. Finding Tifa terribly injured by Sephiroth, Zack could only repay her by ending the misery Sephiroth caused by taking Sephiroth’s life. As he approached Sephiroth inside Jenova’s vault in the Mako Reactor, his trust in him was broken, and they launched into battle. Zack was eventually defeated by Sephiroth, and tossed into one of the pods inside the reactor.

When the incident at Nibelheim ended, Zack along with Cloud were taken to the Nibelheim Shin-Ra Mansion, to be used as Hojo’s experiments. Hojo and the other scientists had Zack and Cloud undergo much experimentation, injecting them with an abundance of Jenova cells. Zack was unaffected by the experiments, and was able to break out of the pod they kept him in for experimentation five years after the incidents at Nibelheim. Zack then carried the mind-erased, lifeless Cloud who was affected by the experiments out of Nibelheim to escape.

Zack and Cloud’s escape caused Shin-Ra to unleash several SOLDIERS to track them down and dispose of both of them. Zack’s main goal was freedom once more and he protected the unconscious Cloud until he met his end near Midgar when he was eliminated by SOLDIERS.

Sephiroth

Sephiroth was one of the men sent to Nibelheim for the investigation by Shin-Ra. While Sephiroth was at Nibelheim, he discovered he was created from experimentation, injected with Jenova cells and Mako energy, which drove him mad. Sephiroth burned Nibelheim to the ground, killing many innocent people in the process, including Tifa’s father, and injuring several, even Tifa. Sephiroth went to the Nibelheim Reactor beyond the mountains to where they were keeping Jenova, sealed in a vault inside.

As Sephiroth defeated Zack at the Reactor, Cloud had the courage to stand up and fight against him. Cloud was seriously injured in the process, being stabbed a few times by Sephiroth’s masamune. Sephiroth’s madness caused him to jump into the Lifestream, along with the head of Jenova, asking her to come to the Promised Land with him. Because of this, Sephiroth died by the Lifestream burning his body.

Tifa Lockheart

When Nibelheim was in flames, Tifa sought her father around the town. Finding her martial arts master, Zangan, he told her that her father was at the Mako Reactor, and she dashed beyond the mountains to save him. When she reached the Nibelheim Reactor, she found her severely injured father lying on the ground, and Sephiroth’s masamune blade next to him. When he died shortly after, Tifa began to resent everything to do with Sephiroth, including Shin-Ra, SOLDIER, and Mako. Angered and grief-stricken, Tifa took Sephiroth’s masamune sword, and ran into the Mako Reactor. When she confronted Sephiroth, trying to attack him with his own blade, he was able to grab a hold of the sword, and slashed Tifa, critically wounding her. She was later rescued by Cloud Strife, her former friend, who made her a promise to always rescue her whenever she was in a bind. Tifa was rescued by Zangan before her injury caused worse problems.

Turks

The Turks took part of capturing Zack and Cloud when they escaped the Old Shin-Ra Mansion in Nibelheim. The Turks were also part of the investigation after Sephiroth died in the Reactor.

Tseng (Zeng)

Part of the Turks who work for Shin-Ra, Tseng was put in charge of capturing the two escapees, Cloud and Zack. Tseng remembers the events of five years ago at Nibelheim, regretting the existence of Sephiroth when he came to the investigation with Hojo. Tseng also seemed to be in opposition to Hojo’s idea of using Cloud and Zack’s bodies as specimens for his research. Even though Tseng was ordered to eliminate the two, Tseng commanded the Turks to bring both back in a living state because of his unwillingness to snatch Cloud and Zack’s freedom from them again. Tseng also told the Shin-Ra SOLDIERS to wait for the Turks to arrive before eliminating either of them. The SOLDIERS however, obviously did not listen and eliminated Zack.

Reno

One of the Shin-Ra Turks involved in the seizing of the two targets: Zack and Cloud. Reno also took part in the investigation of the aftereffects of Sephiroth’s destruction of Nibelheim. Reno is still highly devoted to his job, willing to carry out any mission.

Rude

Shin-Ra Turk Rude was assigned to helicopter duty to track down Zack and Cloud’s positions after they escaped the Shin-Ra Mansion. He was also at the Nibelheim Reactor five years ago.

Elena

Also assigned Helicopter duty along with Rude, Elena tried to give Zack and assurance of his life if he surrendered over to Shin-Ra. Zack resisted to her proposal, not wanted an assurance of life, but freedom. Elena is one of the Turks who came to the Mako Reactor for the investigation.

Hojo

When Sephiroth’s devastation of Nibelheim had ended, Shin-Ra Scientist Hojo, accompanied by other scientists and the Turks, went to the Nibelheim Reactor for an investigation of the damage. Hojo found the body of Zack, barely breathing, and Cloud in an unconscious state, and decided to use the two bodies as new research specimens, and ordered them to be brought to the Shin-Ra’s Old Mansion. During the period of time Zack and Cloud remained as experimentations, Hojo ran several tests on them, injected them with high amounts of Jenova cells. Zack was immune to the cells (probably from already being injected with Mako and Jenova for SOLDIER), yet Cloud had a completely opposite reaction, the Jenova cells caused Cloud to loose all of his memory, causing him to act almost lifeless. Because of this reaction, Hojo named him a failed experiment.

Tifa’s Father

When Sephiroth reaped havoc on the town of Nibelheim, Tifa’s father rushed to the Nibelheim Mako Reactor. Tifa ran to the Reactor only to find her father critically injured from Sephiroth’s masamune sword, which remains close to his body. As Tifa’s father begged Tifa to run away, he died in her arms.

Zangan

Zangan was Tifa’s martial arts instructor and lived in the town of Nibelheim. Zangan survived the fires of Nibelheim and helped the villagers who were wounded by Sephiroth. Zangan later on saved Tifa from the Mako Reactor and brought her to Midgar.

Jenova

After Hojo and Gast’s scientific research on the assumed Cetra, Jenova’s cells were injected in certain individuals that Shin-Ra Company had used. SOLDIER members had a small amount of these cells, giving them incredible agility and strength. Jenova was placed inside the Nibelheim Reactor beyond the mountains. When a Jenova injected man, Sephiroth, found out that he had been a product of one of Shin-Ra’s Jenova experiments, he went mad, causing havoc among the town of Nibelheim. Believing Jenova was a Cetra, he tells her that they will take the Promised Land back together, the ultimate goal of a Cetra. Sephiroth cuts off the head of Jenova and held on to it as he leaped into the Lifestream. Sephiroth constantly refers to Jenova as “Mother.”

SOLDIERS

Some of Shin-Ra’s SOLDIERS were sent out to track down and eliminate Cloud and Zack. When they were specifically told to wait for the Turks to arrive at the destination of the two escapees, the SOLDIERS were unwilling to listen, therefore murdered Zack on the outskirts of Midgar.
